Political opinions

An important election is creeping up... the Superintendent of Public Instruction for the state of Washington. That joke is funny, because most people care more about national politics than local politics. Admittedly, I live within that group as well, but on the face of it, it seems backwards. Why should I care more about someone who will give me 1/50 of their thought versus someone who’s every decision will influence my community. My local politicians are close enough that they could hear my opinions. They’re close enough that I could egg their houses after a short drive. To egg the house of a national politician, I’d have to mail the eggs.

Imagine [insert name of national politician you dislike] coming to the door of their Washington D.C. house to pick up a package.
The mail carrier says, “Please sign for this.”
“What is it?” ask the politician.
“It’s a carton of eggs from one of your constituents back home.”
“That was very thoughtful of them, I needed some eggs. I was actually just in the process of baking some cereal.”
The mail carrier displayed a blank look on his face before saying, “You’re not supposed to bake cereal… Or put eggs in your cereal for that matter… But more importantly, I don’t think the eggs were sent as a gift. I think you’ve been the victim of an egging.”
“Oh, that’s hurtful.” The politician is shook. “Well at least I have the eggs now. Are any of them cracked?”
“Well, they used USPS. So yeah. They’re all cracked.”
[Choose your own punchline ending, jump to paragraph A or paragraph B]

Paragraph A:
“All cracked? You need to do a better job,” said the politician.
“It’s been difficult, we’ve had significant funding cuts.”
“Well tell whoever cut your funding to get their act together.”
The mail carrier says, “You need to get your act together.”

Paragraph B:
“All cracked? Well send them back,” said the politician.
Two days later the same mail carrier returns with the same carton of eggs.
“What are you doing back?” asks the politician.
The mail carrier says, “You should have noticed this earlier, but the constituent put your address as the return address. You’ve just egged your own house.”

Anyways, it’s important to think about local elections as well. Above that, it’s important to vote in local elections.
