Normally I’d prefer to tell a funny story, but in this post I’m going to talk about… passing LTAM :) Read yesterday’s post for context. When the carrier-pigeon arrived with the news, I was in disbelief. I asked, “Shouldn’t this have come by email?” The carrier-pigeon, struggling to find work, hung his head then flew away.
More surprising than the medium of delivery was the news itself - I was confident that I had failed. In fact, I estimated that I only had a 24% chance of passing. The test is scored from 1 to 10; to pass you need at least a score of 6. Not to geek out, but I deduced that my score was binomially distributed with n = 10 and p = 4.5. More simply put, I didn’t think it was likely I’d pass.
From my employer, I’ll get a nice bonus for passing the exam and mentally, I’ve already spent the entire bonus. I’m staring at the empty interior of my apartment and dropping in furniture from my imagination. I’m looking at a charcoal grey couch that you can melt into, an adult-sized bed, a thick rug (whatever thickness you’re thinking of, double that), and if I have anything left in the budget, a Magic Bullet.
I’m feeling thankful. LTAM is the last test I’ll take for the associate level and it’s relieving to be finished. I’m not an associate yet, but this was the last difficult step.
