The last few weekends

Reminder: I’m looking for five guest posts. If interested, read the details here.

***

First off, to clearly define my methodology, I consider Friday part of the weekend. Sunday and Saturday are also part of the weekend. Thus, a regular weekend is three days long. I’m writing this post on my President’s day off, so while most of the workforce is enjoying their three day weekend, I’m enjoying my four day weekend. I’m not saying my perspective is correct, but I am saying it’s better.

Also, in keeping with best, faulty accounting practices, I’m fudging the numbers. The below itinerary will display three bullets for each weekend day (Friday, Saturday, and Sunday), but the margin of error will be one day. So, Friday could actually represent Thursday, or Sunday could actually represent Monday. The above two paragraphs serve as an honest disclaimer to my intransparency.

  • Dec 31st - Jan 2nd - In Colorado Visiting Family

    • Tried to ski, but the conditions were too good. Prayed for snow, but forgot to specify the desired magnitude.

    • Sang in the New Year with a Rock Band. What we lacked in skill, we made up for in altering the difficulty settings.

    • Hunted for lost bags in SeaTac along with other perturbed travelers. Didn’t arrive home until 1:00 AM.

  • Jan 7th - Jan 9th - Flu-like Symptoms

    • On the record, we passed two Covid-tests; off the record, we had all the CDC’s listed symptoms, so it depends on who’s asking.

    • Planted into the couch, we dove into our Oscar’s checklist and didn’t look up.

    • Secusively, at risk of being condemned for sniffling too much, we wrote in the furthest corner of a coffee shop. No, we didn’t have Covid; the two tests came back negative.

  • Jan 14th - Jan 16th - Hosting Sibling

    • Showed Maddie’s brother some of the city’s less touristy gems - SAM, Discovery Park, and Snoqualmie Falls.

    • Became addicted to Hulu’s Dopesick, and watched the entire mini-series.

    • Dined with some of Seattle’s finer cuisine - Golden Singha and Dick’s.

  • Jan 21st - Jan 23rd - Celebrating my 25th

    • Not to brag, but I’ve completed 31.7% of my life expectancy. Celebrated the actuarial milestone by substituting Julie Andrews’ these are a few of my favorite things with better alternatives.

    • Watched football at B-Dubs. Wrote Bog scenes at The Bounty (my favorite Seattle coffee shop). Won cash with dumb craps strategy at a nearby casino. (The fun part was calculating the statistics.)

    • Finished the weekend with Oscar movies and homemade cookies. Shout out to my wonderful girlfriend for treating me so well. I love her lots.

  • Jan 28th - Jan 30th - Hodgepot

    • Attended concert, only five miles away from our apartment, for Sammy Rae, one of my top five favorite artists, for only $20 a ticket. Wow, what a deal!

    • Church and bible study. A few weeks prior, Maddie proudly “networked her way into a bible study.” Seattle bible studies are very exclusive; you’ve got to know someone to get in.

    • Ran through some of the other weekend items which don’t always get the highlights: groceries, cleaning, scheduling appointments.

  • Feb 4th - Feb 6th - Hosting Sibling

    • Showed my sister the understocked shelves of Ikea. No, she didn’t find any of her target items, but not a total wash, Maddie and I found some stylish storage baskets for the apartment. Another partial victory, we waited only 45 minutes for cafeteria meatballs.

    • Treated ourselves to dumplings at Dough Zone and Oscar-quality cinema with West Side Story.

    • Bought donuts at General Porpoise then snuck them into a coffee shop. We never saw the sign saying “No outside food and drink” because it was covered under the donut box.

  • Feb 11th - Feb 13th - Superbowl and Valentines

    • Watched the Rams, Bengals, and Squares battle for NFL supremacy.

    • Exchanged our agreed-upon, gag Valentine’s day gifts, each gift costing about $5. Afterwards, we enjoyed a romantic dinner at Telouise Petite, our favorite Seattle date spot.

    • Began the preliminary shopping venture for an upcoming big event at a custom jewelry shop.

  • Feb 18th - Feb 20th - Hosting Parents

    • Shared some of our favorite Seattle bars and restaurants with Maddie’s parents. (By “shared” I mean selecting the spots. Maddie and I are still in the youngest generation lifestage, so we’re grateful they treated us this weekend.)

    • Learned at the Underground Tour. For any history buffs out there, we highly recommend the Underground Tour.

    • Watched Belfast, currently second most likely to win the Best Picture Oscar.
