The game plan
Have you ever set an arbitrary goal at the behest of no-one but yourself?
You’re walking along and see a mountain in the distance and say, “Huh, I’ve never seen that mountain before, but I’m going to climb that mountain.”
Someone nearby turns in your direction ans asks, “Who are you talking to?”
You don’t hear their question, you’ve already started jogging toward the mountain.
I’m surprised, but I was able to post something everyday this month. It was a goal that I hadn’t told anyone about and has no external payoff. Nevertheless, it feels incredibly rewarding and makes me proud of the feat. Granted, some of the posts were less impressive. I recycled past material for a few. And some posts were brief. However, the bulk of the content was original and challenging to create. Somethings I’d block out an hour to knock out a post, but the hour would turn into two or maybe three. I’d tell myself I’d reward myself with tv after I finished, but find I’d run out of time and just have to go to bed afterwards. That isn’t to say it was grueling, more so a healthy does of challenging.
The plan moving forward is to lessen the post frequency but increase the post length. My October goal is to post twice a week. One post will be an excerpt from my book (did I mention I was writing a book?). While the second post will be a dumb thought, similar to the last 30 posts. I’m thinking the posts will be schedule for 9:00 on Tuesday and Friday. (Notice that I didn’t include an AM or a PM after that time. That’s called a procrastinator’s out.)
I’d be cheating myself if I didn’t finish the post with at least one dumb thought, so here it is.
The other day I learned that just because you bought the milk from before the sell-by date, doesn’t mean that it’s not expired now.
